Free Game Fridays: Space Time!

Hello everybody, Shaun Meyers (Kyo Akiara) here to welcome you to our latest Free Game Fridays article! Today’s theme is space so we’ll be showcasing 5 games that either take place in space or are space/sci-fi related. As with all of the games we showcase here some of them may be in active development while others may be completed so keep that in mind when checking them out.

Star Raptor: For our first game we’ll be showcasing Star Raptor by Y310Games. This game is a dogfighting based space sim built in the unity engine and released as a free game. It’s built in the style of classics like Freelancer or Wing Commander with you taking control of a space ship and taking down enemy fighters and even dreadnaught sized ships. A controller is definitely recommended for this game as well.

Pythetron: For our second game I’m showcasing an upcoming 2.5D shoot em up space game called Pythetron. This game is currently in an alpha stage of development and is being developed by a one man dev team. The game was put up on kickstarter to fund the project but the campaign failed unfortunately. A playable version of the alpha is available for play however and it’s quite the impressive title and I hope to see it in it’s entirety one day.

Elders of Madness:For game number three we’re showcasing another space shoot em up but this time dealing in space monsters instead of enemy ships. The game takes inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft and has you piloting a lone space ship through monster infested areas. The game is the culmination over 120 guys from secondary education and was developed over the course of 7 months. The game utilizes an old school 8-bit graphics style and soundtrack and was created using Game Maker: Studio.

Super Ultra Space Racer: For game number four we’re showcasing something a bit different this time. Super Ultra Space Racer is a minimalist high speed racing game in which you pilot space ships around various courses. The game features 4 courses and the AI will most certainly destroy you if you make even one mistake so something to consider.
Space Funeral: For our final space themed game this week I bring you Space Funeral, a really whacky alien based indie JRPG. The game is around 3 hours long and was built in RPG Maker 2003 by thecatamites. Here’s a synopsis on the game’s storyline: Phillip and the Leg Horse set off on a strange and deadly mission to find the legendary City Of Forms from which all things in the world are derived. On their travels they must overcome ghosts, criminals, hyponosis, lions, Draculas, cryptic letters, muscle hedonists, swamp knights, mysterious caves, blood ghouls, grotesque monsters, purple drank and more in order to discover the secret of Space Funeral.

Conclusion:

Thanks for joining us for this week’s Free Game Fridays article folks and I hope that you’ve enjoyed our picks this week and you’ll join us again next week. Happy gaming folks!
